I.Registration
1. Enrolled students shall get registered with their passport and Admission Notice during the prescribed days. Self-supporting student are required to pay the tuition. Students who can not register accordingly must contact Administrative Office for International Students of International college and explain to the advisors there. Those who fail to finish registering after 2 weeks (including 2 weeks) of the prescribed time, unless approved beforehand or due to force majeure, shall be considered as forfeiting.
2. Keep-on-study student shall, at the beginning of a new semester, take their student ID card (self-supporting students need to take their Registration Form of Temporary Residence as well) to register at Administrative Office for International Students of their college within prescribed days. Those who can not register on time shall apply for a deferment.
3. Master and PhD candidates shall finish registering in Administrative Office for International Students first before reporting to their college within prescribed time.
II.Course hours and Credit
Please refer to your college’s regulations.
III.Course Selection
All international students must select courses in the Teaching Affairs Office of their college as prescribed according to their major. Those who fail the course selection shall shoulder full responsibility by themselves.
IV. Attendance
1.Attendance for new students shall be recorded as of the day after course selection and for keep-on-study students, as of the first day of class.
2. Being late for class for longer than 5 minutes or three times of within-5 minutes lateness shall be recorded as an absence.
3. Students whose recorded absences reach the set amount (refer to your college’s prescription) shall not be allowed to take the final exam of related course.
Note: Private-affair leave and sick leave shall be recorded as absence. Urgency leave which would not be recorded as absence must be reported to the college director for approval.
4. Disruptive students could be asked to leave classroom and recorded absent.
5. Students who are allowed to take the final exam shall be grade 0 for that course and no chance of makeup exam shall be given.
V.Grades
1. The total grade comprises semester performance and final exam score, of which the former takes up 30% or 40%, the latter 70% or 60%. The semester performance includes attendance, class performance, behavior etc.
2. Exam-course adopts a 100-full-score marking system, 60 being the pass score. Non-exam (evaluation) course adopts a pass-or-failure marking system.

VII.Suspension of Schooling
1. Students who need to suspend their study may apply to the Administrative Office for International Students of International college for Suspension of Schooling (leave of absence) with a written application or a medical certificate. After being approved they should shorten the validity of Residence Permit. Then finish all the procedures and get a certificate for leave of absence.
2. The longest time allowed for the leave is one academic year. (Those who leave for the military service need to notice the following: The application from those who study at HDU less than two years will not be approved; for those more than two years, with the certificate provided by the student and approved by International Students Department, can have s longest of three-year leave of absence.) A student may apply for such leave only once.
3. The credits received before the leave can be valid for one year (since the date of leave). The credits of those leaving for military service may be valid for three years.
4. Self-supporting students on leave of absence will not get the tuition back for the academic year. You can use the money when you resume study.
5. The Chinese Government Scholarship students who are unable to continue the study due to the sickness need to apply to Administrative Office for International Students at your college with medical certificate and the approval official letter from your country’s embassy, then HDU will report it to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for approval. The Chinese Government Scholarship students’ personal affairs leave request will not be approved. During the time of leave of absence, scholarship will be suspended. You can apply for it again when you resume your study and may enjoy it if the CSC approves.
6. Students on leave should resume study on time. Students on leave of absence for sickness should present a health certificate when resuming study.
7. Students resuming study should apply for an X visa to come to China. The Administrative Office for International Students of your college will be responsible for your resuming application.
VIII.Dropout
1. Students who need to drop out have to apply to the Administrative Office for International Students of International College. With the approval, they can finish the dropout procedures and leave HDU within one week.
2. Refunding of tuition or fees for dropout students shall be conducted in accordance with other regulations and provisions concerned.
IX.Departure from HDU
Students who leave HDU (transferring to others schools, leave of absence, and discontinuation of schooling or graduation) should, 2 weeks before the ending of the semester, draw a Clearance Form from the Administrative Office for International Students of your college and finish the clearance procedures in accordance with the regulation. You should balance the account and return all university property such as bedding, library card and student ID card before leaving.
X.Switch of Major or Research Orientation
1. All international students must select courses as prescribed according to their major. Those who fail the course selection shall shoulder full responsibility by themselves.
2. Self-supporting student are allowed to transfer their major or research orientation but only once and transference application must be handed in to the Teaching Affairs Office of their college for approval before they advance to junior.
3. Generally, scholarship students can not change their major, transfer to another university or extend study period. For some special cases, the application should be sent by relevant offices in the scholarship students’ country to CSC and follow the CSC’s decisions. Those who change their major, transfer to another university or extend study period without approval, their scholarship shall be cancelled.
XI.Punishments of improper behaviors
1. Cheating in exams shall result in suspension and cancelling grades of all courses of that semester if students are caught for the first time. Second-time cheaters shall be expelled immediately.
2. Being absent for longer than 1 week (1 week included) or leave with no reason given shall be considered as automatically dropping out.
3. Those that break the university or related college’s regulations/provisions/rules shall be warned or expelled depending on the seriousness of the case.
4. Those that violate the Chinese laws/regulations shall be handed to authorities concerned.
XII.Certificates and Credentials
1. Students who have completed the required courses and gained a “pass” or above will be awarded an appropriate “Certificate of Study”.
2. Undergraduates, who have completed the required courses and gained a “pass” or above will be awarded a Diploma. With the Diploma, if you have passed the defense of your dissertation and have obtained required credits, you can get your degree and you will be awarded a degree certificate. If you fail the courses, you will be granted a certificate for your course of study. Dropouts will be afforded a certificate for having studied in HDU.
3. Three-year student who have completed the required courses and gained a “pass” or above will be awarded a Diploma. Those who fail the courses will be granted a certificate for completion of the course.
4. Students who will further pursue a specialty (including language students) will be awarded a certificate for advanced study upon completion and passing all the courses. Students for advanced study will be awarded a certificate for advanced study upon completion and passing all the courses. Those who do not finish the program and not pass the courses will be awarded a study certificate.
5. For shorter-than-one-semester program students, a certificate of study will be awarded.
6. Master’s and PhD’s Degree is conferred in accordance with the Regulations on Postgraduate Students.
XIII.Student ID Card, Certificates and Their Application
1. Student ID card
(1). After registration, students will get the HDU student Card issued by the International Students Administration Office.
(2). Student ID card is the ID for international students. Please take it with you and sub-tenancy or alteration is not permitted.
(3). If the student ID card is lost, you can apply for a new one at the International Students Administration Office at their college with one 2-inch photo and 20 Yuan RMB, and it generally takes three working days for the reissuing procedures.
(4). While finishing your study at HDU, please return your student ID card to the International Students Administration Office of International College
2. Certificates
(1). The International Students Administration Office of your college can provide the students with study certificate and transcript either in Chinese or English language.
(2). The graduates’ study certificate and transcript can be applied for from the International Students Affairs Office of ISD.
(3). The fee for each study certificate is 10 Yuan RMB.
3. Report on the Course Achievements
(1). The colleges and departments will provide graduates with a report on achievements in all the courses.
(2) If the official copy is needed (either in Chinese or in English), please contact the International Students Affairs Office of ISD.
(3). The fee is: the first copy 80 Yuan RMB; besides the first one, 10 Yuan RMB for every additional copy. It usually takes three working days to finish registering procedures related to the copies.
